The following is a list of private U.S. Thoroughbred training-tracks. The horses who die at these locations do so in utter anonymity; we will never know who they are or how many are killed – just the way Racing wants it.

OMG… I’m truly stunned by the number of “Training” Tracks on your list. The whole horse racing industry is shameful. Once upon a time (up until several years’ ago when I stumbled upon your blog), I used to pretty much faithfully watch the Triple Crown every year. Now I never do. Canada also has its own version of the American Triple Crown, and I don’t watch those races anymore either. At least I’ve never bet money on this industry. Horses deserve SO MUCH BETTER than this.
Thank you, Elinor.
The pain, suffering, cruelty, abuse, maiming, and/or dying that goes on at private training centres is completely unregulated.
Deaths don’t have to be reported.
The predominant population of racehorses are 2 year olds so you can only imagine what goes on there as their broke, and trained at 1.5 years old.
Some of these private training centres are used almost exclusively by top name Trainers who have their reputation to protect, and win rates as a priority it seems.
Take, for example, McCathan Brothers in Florida. Their main client is Bob Baffert.
Many of his yearlings go there to be broke, “tested,” and then either dropped or moved on.
Only the ones who survive the rigour, show promise, show talent are the ones who move onto Bob Baffert’s barn.
The ones who don’t make it?
Your guess is as good as mine.
Take for example Barbara Banke’s (AKA Stonestreet Farms) exclusive training Center in Florida.
Yesterday she bought a yearling at Fasig-Tipton Kentucky for the mere price of $950,000 where it will be, more than likely, sent to her private training center like most of them.
Of course I hope all racehorses are safe, and sound, but whatever happens on these private centres are completely unregulated, operate with virtual impunity.
Now one would have to conclude that they have the racehorses health and welfare as a priority especially when paying that kind of money.
It seems to be more of a never ending pursuit of winning stake races, the Kentucky Derby, the Breeders Cup – the stroking of egos – that push these babies well beyond their capacity, and disaster can often result.
I focus on ego in this example because obviously she doesn’t need the money.
I’ve seen many like her in this industry – the elite.
In the end, it’s all the same.
Ask ROCK FALL, snapped both front legs at Keeneland under the care of one of her “go to” Trainers Todd Pletcher.
I don’t think Rock Fall was thinking about his price tag or opulence while he laid dying in the dirt.
I would guess that many of their “Derby” prospects are maimed, and killed in the process, but on private training centres – who knows?
Our math tells us that many of her purchases have never made iit, but that goes for most 2 year olds in this industry.
These wealthy owners can hide all the maiming, and killings at their private training centres.
Out of sight – out of mind.
It isn’t just the wealthy owners as these training centres are virtual “crippling” places for the sore, and lame.
I can’t count the racehorses I saw limping to the track in the morning some being beaten into the track.
The vets?
Anyone of them that I approached made it very clear that they would not report racehorse abuse on a private training Center.
Instead, they made lots of money with on endless joint injections, tranquilizers, and scrapping sore shins. Now that’s a procedure not for the light-hearted.
So private training centres are just another cesspool of cruelty, and abuse unabated.
The deaths are not reportable.
And don`t forget all the little county bull ring tracks that are also used as training/ racing facilities. Right now in our NW there are 10 and 12 year old horses racing at these crummy facilities that have had 85 starts and have earned almost a million dollars running for a lousy $2,000 claiming tag. We fear for these horses lives! We know the tracks/ crummy trainers! Yes Gina its all about peoples egos and show/ tell as well as the rich peoples entertainment at the horses expense! We can only hope that the economics of jockeys insurance and the increasing knowledge of the public through sites as Patrick`s will eventually stop this business. When these tracks which are only 1/2 mile bull rings continually have horses falling through clipped heals and riders falling from worn out tired horses stumbling from the gate, one can only imagine what the insurance for the riders must cost these small tracks. The handle at many of these small county fair type tracks , for the entire program, is only $25,000.
It just sickens me.
They need to shut down these bull rings, then the “B” tracks, eventually all.
These bull rings are cruelty circuses, but aren’t they all?
The “A” tracks are the same only its more covered-up with fancy hats, mint juleps, alcohol. and wealth.
In the end, every single racehorse will be subjected to whipping/beating, doping, dumping and/or dying at some point whatever track it is.
Sickening, pathetic, and legitimized animal cruelty.
Thanks for your input.
Thank you, Gina.
Lol remember, this is all coming from a former “trainer”… But let’s be honest she couldn’t train a dog to sit, let alone a race horse. Sounds like you are very bitter Gina that you couldn’t hack it with the big boys and girls so she decides to air her “displeasures” here stating her “truths”. What a crock of shit. Gina you are nothing more than a pimple on the racing industry’s ass… You need to just go away.
Chuck – you are a coward.
Until you state your name like I have then anything you say is disputable.
I’m used to pro-horse racing people like you Chuck or whatever your name is.
When I took impeccable care of my racehorses I was ridiculed.
When I questioned the beatings/whippings, doping, dumping, and dying many reacted the way you do.
I was a pimple to be squashed.
In order to be successful in the industry you must uphold the ongoing cruelty, abuse, and exploitation.
You must keep your mouth shut, and turn your head while you watch racehorses go down.
You must sell yourself out to either the HBPA, the CEO’s of tracks and/or wagering outlets at the expense of the racehorses.
So your statements are consistent with the racetrack culture, and the ongoing exploitation.
You have showed the true colours of racetrack culture. Congratulations!
So sad that racehorses are under your care because it’s very obvious that you uphold the exploitation even if that means dying.
You are so typical of horse racing people, and a stark reminder to me that I’m so happy to be out of it.
So happy to not partake in this cruelty circus, and death camp.
Gina you are so right. I admire your never backing down. I guess when one has been in the industry as long as we have, it’s hard to get feelings hurt, over a comment that is surely intended to tear you down. There is not a word, comment, or a insult that those in the industry could throw my way, that could shake my resolve. I have seen too much, how they have treated their horses, each other, and myself.
Keep fighting the good fight. I appreciate all that you do.
Is there anything that we can do to make them more accountable?
Chuck! So nice to see a troll like you on here! How many horses have you maimed or killed for the almighty dollar? If you are so proud of yourself for calling Gina a failed trainer, why don’t you use your real name so we can check you out?
Well “Faith” you got me there, Chuck isn’t my real name it’s actually Charles Hahaha… When you say maimed and killed you make it sound like I wield a machete, well that would be weird lol. I do however bring horses to the track to race. Haven’t made much of the almighty $ doing so, but that doesn’t deter me, still love the game. I won’t apologize for loving horse racing. I know I love my horses – to which all your responses will be “that’s not love”, that’s cool that’s your “opinion”, I have mine.
Charles Hahaha, why don’t you use your full name. Why are you hiding ? Are you afraid ?
You bring horses you “love” to the track to race knowing full well that you may not be taking one or more of these horses you “love” home again. Now that is a strange kind of “love”
Racing kills and maims a lot of horses and most have not even reached maturity.
PS You don’t like the message so you attack the messenger, Chuck, Charles, or whoever you are.
Rose or whoever you are, I absolutely do bring horses I love to the track knowing there is potential risk, which is a far cry from a certainty… You can think I’m scum for doing so, you’re entitled to your opinion I really couldn’t care any less what you think. Horse Racing isn’t going anywhere
One question for you chuck Charles whatever…….when does risk outweigh reward for something you “love” why do YOU race your horse what’s the reasoning, you see I don’t have horses yet someday I will but I do have dogs and I do love my dogs they are my true family with that said I would never ask my pets to do anything that would put them in such a risky place knowing full well if something did happen there’s what do you say 90 percent chance it’s an irriparible injury your statements are ludicrous at best love is not the word to use for you chuck exploitation would be more fitting I look forward to your answers
Ok Mr perfect you tell me the percentage of a horse surviving a fracture while racing since you know so damn much your industry/buissness can’t even regulate itself what does that say about you folks in 2016 how .long has horse racing been existent please your pathetic at best I don’t have to shovel shit to recognize the smell oh and irreparable my apologizes
Rock on Billy! Proud to fighting this fight beside you…
Yes, well it seems that the facts and the truths about the inherent animal cruelty in horseracing exposed on this blog has upset Chuck, Charles or whatever his name is.
His precious lifestyle of exploiting horses, daily observing the huge number of abuses suffered by these innocents, is being threatened.
Doesn’t surprise me that out of all the people. commenting on this blog, out of all the comments, (s)he decides to attack me.
This happened on the track. As soon as they got a whiff that I was rejecting the delusion, the systemic abuse justified by the delusion, questioning the system of legitimized cruelty, and abuse -they targeted me.
They made my life a living hell. Abusers don’t like to be called out on what they are actually doing.
They only want enablers around them and the racing system is set up that way.
They revere multiple drug violating Trainers while multiple racehorses die in the dirt under their care.
They condone this behaviour.
They condemn and destroy anybody who doesn’t uphold the system as seen in the comment by Chuck/Charles whatever his name is.
Most importantly though, abusers can be sociopaths that hide behind their abusive actions while having a front to carry on their immoral activities – right Chuck?
Hiding behind a fictitious name doesn’t hide. your activities because anybody who sends their “beloved” horses into this cruelty circus is partaking in animal cruelty.
Gina, this bloke isn’t worth a second thought.
Your right Carolyn.
Thanks Billy, 20+ Insider.
Thanks to all who expose this industry for the cruelty circus, and death camp that it is.
My heart goes out to all racehorses who are forced to run in the heat this weekend.
It’s 120+ with humidity all over North America – heat warnings in effect.
Responsible pet owners keeping their domestic pets indoors except for pottie.
My chihuahua and cat inside comfortable in the A/C.
The “loved” “family members” of horse racing?
Well their being injected with Lasix, and probably other things, running in this heat, and many are dropping from it.
Shame on anybody who supports or participates in this animal cruelty.
I believe that Stonestreet Farms also has a training center somewhere in Florida. Lanes End Farm and Taylor Made Farm also has a training facility on their farms.
Do all the big farms have a training facility on their property?
Not all farms do, but most do.
If you just google any one of these farms they have pictures of their training centers.
Some are exclusive, but these farms will take on racehorses for various reasons usually for breaking, training and/or lay-ups.
These farms fall under the Private Property laws so if any horse is maimed or killed they don’t have to report that.
Thank you Gina.
